In 1966 Arno Bellack and colleagues at Teachers College analyzed interactions in social studies classes. Teachers College Press published the results in 1966 in Th e language of the classroom. Professor Bellack and his colleagues had developed a system to analyze interactions. I adopted it so I could analyze interactions in ESOL classrooms and published the first version of my adaptation in 1977 in the TESOL Quarterly
