BALB/c mice, inoculated on day 0 with nonlethal cyclophosphamide (CY) and C57BL/6 spleen cells, exhibited clinical graft-versus-host (GVH) disease by days 5–7 and died with a median survival time of 15 days. Additional high doses of CY on day 6 or 7 had no effect, whereas a low dose of CY given on days 6–9 decreased mortality and prolonged survival. Low doses of procarbazine (PRO) were similarly effective against established GVH disease. Both drugs were more effective when the GVH disease was less severe.
