This chapter summarizes FACE facility engineering performance during the 1987-1989 operating period. There are two general areas of system control. The first is reliability of subsystems and components. The second is maintenance of temporal and spatial control of the COsub 2 concentration within the experimental plot. Data from 1987, 1988, and 1989 are presented to illustrate spatial variability in COsub 2 within the FACE array. The first section addresses system reliability, that is, failures of hardware components or subsystems resulting in inability of the facility to function as designed. This is distinct from COsub 2 control performance, defined as the ability to hold a preset concentration level when all hardware is functioning. 3 refs. , 20 figs. , 12 tabs.
