This paper focuses on the problem of adaptive fuzzy control for a class of nonlinear systems without a strict-feedback form. A new adaptive fuzzy control scheme is proposed for nonlinear delayed systems with unknown dead-zone nonlinearity. Control design is achieved by introducing a variable separation approach and employing the unique structural property of fuzzy logic systems. The proposed adaptive fuzzy controller guarantees that all the closed-loop signals are semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded, and the tracking error converges to a small neighborhood of the origin. Two simulation examples illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
