Information and Empowerment: The Keys to Achieving Sustainable Tourism

This article contributes to critical tourism studies by developing ethnographically-informed critiques of power relations in the development of community-based sustainable tourism. Action research, employed over a 14-year period, enabled testing and development of theory resulting in greater insight and understanding of tourism-related change from the perspective of the 'host' community.
