On the basis of previous work, it was hypothesized that field-independent Ss would show better incidental memory for task-relevant stimuli, while field-dependent Ss would better remember incidentally presented task-irrelevant social cues. Only the former was supported by the results. It is possible that the latter depends upon the social context of the interaction between subject and experimenter.
