The psychometric properties of the Job Descriptive Index (JDI; Smith, Kendall, & Hulin, 1969), supplemented by a pool of experimental items, was examined. Significant improvements in the measurement properties of the JDI scales were obtained. Results are discussed in the framework of the need for frequent updating of psychological measures and the unending process of test construction and validation
