Summary. The intravenous injection of 20 mg/kg of sodium arsenate into pregnant golden hamsters on the 8th day of gestation causes a high incidence of exencephaly in embryos recovered 4 to 5 days later. The effect of arsenic seems to be site-specific and may be related to damage of the embryonic mesenchyme.
