Abstract The reactions of normal and deuterated methanols with H/D atoms have been studied in an isothermal discharge flow reactor (500 ≤ T (K) ≤ 680) at low pressures (2–8 mbar). Samples were withdrawn by a molecular beam sampling system directly into the ion source of a mass spectrometer. Concentration measurements with calibration procedures and the knowledge of secondary radical + atom reactions establish the reaction route The reaction route was found to be negligible (ratio of efficiencies (I)/(II) > 10). ‐ The rate constants for the reactions H + CH 3 OH, H + CD 3 OH, and H + CD 3 OD were measured in the temperature range 500‐680 K, leading to .
