Relation between commuting, leisure time physical activity and serum lipids in a Chinese urban population

Primary objective: To analyse the association between both commuting and leisure time physical activity and serum lipids in a Chinese population.Population: A total of 1786 males and 1922 females aged 20-49 years.Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out in 1989 in urban area of the city of Tianjin, China. Commuting and leisure time physical activity, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides were determined.Results: Daily walking or cycling to and from work was inversely associated with serum total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations among men and positively associated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations among women as compared to travelling to and from work by bus.Conclusions: The present study showed a significant association between serum lipids and commuting physical activity, but no relation with leisure time sports.Zielstellung: Es werden die Zusammenhänge zwischen körperlicher Aktivität beim Pendeln (Radfahren zur Arbeit) und in der Freizeit und den Serumlipiden in einer chinesischen Bevölkerung analysiert. Material: Insgesamt 1786 Männern und 1922 Frauen im Alter von 20-49 Jahre. Methoden: Eine Querschnittsuntersuchung wurde 1989 im städtischen Bereich der Stadt Tianjin/China durchgeführt. Die körperliche Aktivität beim Pendeln und in der Freizeit, Gesamtcholesterin, Lipoproteincholesterin mit hoher Dichte, Lipoproteincholesterin mit geringer Dichte und Triglyzeride wurden bestimmt. Resultate: Das tägliche Gehen oder das Radfahren zur und von der Arbeit ist bei Männern umgekehrt assoziiert zu den Konzentrationen des Gesamtcholesterin im Serum, der Lipoproteincholesterine mit geringer Dichte und der Triglyzeride und positiv assoziiert mit dem Lipoproteincholesterin mit hoher Dichte bei Frauen, welche auf dem Weg zur und von der Arbeit den Bus benutzen. Schlußfolgerungen: Die vorliegende Untersuchung zeigte eine signifikante Beziehung zwischen Serumlipiden und körperlicher Aktivität beim Pendeln, aber keine Relation zum Freizeitsport.Objectif premier: analyser l'association entre activité physique dans les transports et pendant les loisirs, avec les lipides sériques dans une population chinoise. Population: un total de 1786 hommes et de 1992 femmes âgés de 20 à 49 ans. Méthodes: une enquête transversale a été effectuée en 1989 dans le secteur urbain de la ville chinoise de Tianjin. L'activité physique liée aux transports et aux loisirs, le cholestérol total, le cholestérol des lipoprotéines de haute densité, le cholestérol des lipoprotéines de faible densité et les triglycérides, ont été déterminés. Résultats: la marche ou le cyclisme quotidien du domicile jusqu'au lieu de travail comparés aux trajets effectués en autobus sont inversement associés avec le cholestérol sérique total, ainsi qu'avec les concentrations en cholestérol des lipoprotéines de faible densité et en triglycérides chez les hommes. Ils sont positivement associés avec les concentrations de cholestérol des lipoprotéines de haute densité chez les femmes. Conclusion: la présente étude montre une association significative entre les lipides sériques et l'activité physique liée aux transports, mais non avec les sports pratiqués pendant les loisirs.
