The IEEE 802.11w amendment for protected management frame has been finalized. The main purpose of this new amendment is to reduce the susceptibility of Wi-Fi networks to various DoS attacks. In this paper, we scrutinize the resilience of 802.11w amendment against known disconnection based DoS attacks. Our analysis of the IEEE 802.11w reveals that new attributes introduced in this amendment can be misused to cause serious disruption in 802.11 wireless networks. We present results to verify our analysis and discuss possible remediation of the reported problems.
