The general theory of the elasticity of elastomers as developed by James and Guth (reference 9) is extended and applied to cylindrical elastomeric tubes. Data obtained by Hallock and Benson (reference 4) on human aortas of several age groups are described rather well by the resulting equations. On the basis of this analysis an interpretation of the aging process for aortas is given.
