175,216 patients with a first acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in Sweden between 1993 and 2004.
Hospitalization with heart failure after an acute myocardial infarctionhard clinical
While the incidence of heart failure following a first myocardial infarction decreased from 1993 to 2004, the 3-year risk remains substantial, particularly in older adults.
In this national sample, we observed a steady decrease in the risk of being hospitalized with HF after an AMI. However, the 3-year risk of HF remains high, with nearly one-third of AMI patients aged 65-84 developing HF within 3 years.
