Lewis A. Mennerick This paper examines the occupation of travel agent, an occupation that is not sex-role stereotyped. Six measures were developed, revealing the existence of sex structuring of men and women in management and sales positions both among and within New York City travel agencies. Men were found to predominate in management, women in sales. Male managers were also most frequent in the more prestigious kinds of agencies, female managers in the less prestigious agencies. Furthermore, whereas female top managers tended to employ female managerial and sales subordinates, male top managers employed males in management but females in sales.
