Most of the writing on the subject of literature as an aspect of EFLESL has concentrated on teachers' attitudes to the use of literature in language courses. By contrast, the following article describes an investigation and survey into how students feel about studying English literature. The article proposes a strategy for the teaching of literature which incorporates students' attitudes along with the more established factors of the teacher's choice of goals and selection of texts.
