Abstract This study investigated how and with what success police officers combat, both off and on duty, work‐related stress. Their methods are not particularly successful, and the methods used do not differentiate between gender, rank and duties. While ‘healthy’ methods, such as exercise, are used, there is a tendency towards the increased use of alcohol, smoking and eating as means of relieving stress.
