The logistic model (Cox, 1970, Chapter 2) has been widely used in the analysis of retrospective studies. This paper discusses two methods of analysis, one based on work by Mantel (1973) and Anderson (1972) and a second based on a conditional likelihood. The motivation for the first method is clarified and some efficiency calculations are presented.
