In the course of a prospective study of 100 consecutive unselected patients suffering from myo- cardial infarction (Julian, Valentine, and Miller, 1964a), 13 subjects were discovered in whom the condition was complicated by bundle-branch block. This group was characterized by important differences in clinical features and prognosis. The conduction defect was frequently transient in nature and in several instances rate-dependent.
