This article is designed to provide guidelines to assist midwives in evaluating the qualitative research studies. Criteria for evaluating quantitative are frequently applied to qualitative methodolgies and this is inappropriate. To provide effective care for mothers and babies midwives need to be able to critically evaluate qualitative as well as quantitative research.
