Using infrared radiation for biometric applications is a very new and exciting concept that promises to deliver high-end applications in numerous fields including security and medicine. While a few devices have already been implemented, there is a strong demand for a low cost multi-purpose infrared sensing device. Our research has been focused on an easy to use, cost-effective vein pattern detection system that uses near infrared radiation but the algorithms and the hardware lighting and sensing head can successfully be used in various applications in the field of forensics, human recognition or in medical applications.
