The transformation of NO and NO 2 on cold-deposited silver films (30-40 K) has been investigated by SERS under UHV conditions. After exposure with doses of NO we observed strong signals of Formula: see text, N 2 O, and atomic oxygen and weak signals of physisorbed N 2 but none of NO. The reactions of NO 2 on the surface are exposure dependent and yields the formation of Formula: see text, Formula: see text, and the dimerised species N 2 O 4 .
