A general discussion of measurements of latex particles by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) is given. An improved camera working in slit-collimation (modified Kratky camera) is shown to allow precise measurements of the SAXS intensities of latexes if the distance of the sample to the detector is chosen properly. Furthermore, a critical comparison of different desmearing procedures and the corrections necessary for removal of the fluctuation-induced scattering is presented. The experimental data obtained from poly(styrene) latexes show that the radial electron density of particles with a diameter of ca. 150 nm can be obtained with great accuracy.
