Commercial heparin preparations vary considerably in their ability to induce platelet aggregation in vitro.
Eight commercial heparin preparations were examined by the method of Born & Cross. All preparations induced aggregation of washed human platelets in the presence of calcium, probably by inducing release of platelet ADP. The aggregating potency varied considerably from brand to brand.
