Community psychiatry services: will they endure?

The challenges for 24 h comprehensive community psychiatric services for the seriously mentally ill are to become widespread, stable, and enduring, by integrating community and hospital treatment, crisis, case-management and rehabilitation services, and by actively involving multidisciplinary professionals, service-users, and their families in management, budget protection, future planning, retraining, standard-setting, quality improvement, evaluation and research.
