The cupriferous sandstones of the lower Proterozoic Udokansk series of eastern Siberia occur in paleodeltaic deposits and are older than the igneous rocks. Proofs of the primary sedimentary origin of the ores are the facies-stratigraphic control of the mineralization, the geochemical properties of the ores, their complex mineral zoning (associated with diverse facies environments during accumulation of petrographically uniform sediments) and relicts of syngenetic and diagenetic structures and textures. There is no evidence of stluCtural or lithological control of the mineralization. The hypogene nature of the sulfides results from epigenesis and weak regional contact and hydrothermal metamorphism. --Auth.
