The trends in contemporary education indicate that physical education in the schools in fact contains many elements of education itself. It not only strengthens students physically, enhances their capacity for sports and athletic activity, gives them greater basic knowledge in physical education, and cultivates a set of people who have aptitude for athletic achievement at a higher level, but it also plays a part in molding a lot of qualities in students, such as their conduct and moral behavior, their characters and personalities, sentiments and feelings, interests, and so on. Physical education also cultivates within students a sense of competition, a spirit of cooperation, the confidence and courage to strive for victory, the ability to endure failures and setbacks, a rigorous sense of being well-organized, disciplined, having a sense of responsibility to the collective, a sense of honor, a sense of national pride and ambition, and the spirit to explore and strive for progress. All these are important parts of what quality education contains and are indispensable qualities that tomorrow's society demands of all its people.
