Krook, Max Abstract A moment method is given for the approximate solution of transfer equations This is used to discuss the relation between various other methods that are also based on initially approximating to the angular distribution of intensity. The procedures most frequently employed are not adapted to the boundary conditions of the problems. Definite advantages attach to the use of procedures adapted to the boundary conditions; the discrete-ordinate method, the moment method, and the method of expansion in orthogonal functions are completely equivalent.
