Factors affecting job satisfaction, stress and work performance of secondary education teachers in Epirus, NW Greece

The purpose of the present study was to assess job satisfaction and stress levels of secondary education teachers in NW Greece. A survey (n = 413) indicated that teachers were more satisfied with the job itself (the nature of the work itself, the ability to work with and help their students) and less satisfied with working conditions and that young teachers and women exhibit high levels of stress. Environmental factors that were found to have positive effect on teachers’ work performance included: provision of ‘ethical rewards’, ‘good working conditions’, ‘motivation by the school principal’ and ‘participation in school administration and decision making’.
