Before accepting the investigators' conclusion that low molecular weight (LMW) heparin is significantly less hemorrhagic than standard unfractionated heparin (1), it is important to consider if the findings were caused by a dose effect rather than by a true property of LMW heparin. Because equivalent doses of standard and LMW heparin were not known, Levine and colleagues chose a fixed, arbitrary dose of 7500 units of standard heparin (1); the relevance of this dose, however, is uncertain because it is not typically...References1.
