What are the effects of changes in ventricular rate produced by artificial pacemaking on stroke volume and central pressures at rest and during exercise in patients with heart block?
This study describes the hemodynamic effects of altering ventricular rate via artificial pacemakers in patients with heart block.
The stroke volume and central pressures were measured at rest and during exercise in 22 patients with heart block, aged between 14 and 78 years. The immediate and later effects of changes in ventricular rate produced by artificial pacemaking are described, and their significance is discussed.
