This study focuses on the relationship between an adolescent girl's family relationship patterns and her peer relationship patterns. Degree of connectedness in family relationships is measured using global coding of family interaction process. Peer connectedness is measured by a sociometric questionnaire. Results reveal a similarity between the degree of connectedness the adolescent girl experiences in her family relationships and the degree of connectedness which she experiences in her relationships with peers. These results support the importance of family system patterns in the development of social relationships outside of the family.
