I was very pleased to see Professor Berry's ambitious examination of how to approach the adaptational problems encountered by immigrants. Given their magnitude and importance, the problems of uprooting, dislocation, or relocation, which are some of the terms often used instead of immigration and acculturation, have not been given their proper place in the social sciences. Indeed, these problems seem to have grown much worse in modern times.
