How does a physician determine whether to vaccinate a particular patient? How does an insurer decide whether to reimburse for such a service? Questions regarding the appropriate use of diagnostic procedures and therapeutic interventions are becoming increasingly common and increasingly important. Medicine is in the midst of a technologic explosion. Tests, procedures, and interventions are being developed and introduced into clinical practice in unprecedented numbers.
