The specific heat of cadmium has been measured over the range 1·3°K to 20° K. The electronic term is found to be 1·5 × 10−4T cals mole−1 °−1 and the Debye θ at 0° K is 188°, in fair agreement with the value calculated from elastic constants. The specific heat of mercury has also been measured over the same range and is shown to be characterized by a sharply changing Debye θ with a minimum at 3°K. The lowest points measured have not reached a T3 dependence of the lattice specific heat.
