For the current edition Dr Peter Safar is joined by a coauthor, Dr Nicholas Bircher, to update and enhance the text. Their success in achieving these objectives in the resulting third edition proves their association to be indeed fortunate. Initial chapters of the book are presented as a manual of resuscitation techniques, which could serve as an essential text for all clinicians. Written with a particularly clear style, it is concise almost to the point of fault. Ample illustrations, most of them simple cartoons, provide clear direction for those practicing the motor skills necessary for successful resuscitation efforts. Printed in two colors, the text also uses a colored background to highlight vital treatment algorithms and descriptions of essential techniques.
