The short-form Locke Marital Adjustment Questionnaire was factor-analyzed to obtain distinct components of marital adjustment for husbands and wives. Principal axis factor analysis with varimax rotations of data for 149 wives and 157 husbands indicated that the instrument is an internally consistent measure of marital adjustment, and that this general aspect consists of two separate components-sexual congeniality and compatibility. Factor scores for each factor were found to be stable over a two-year test-retest interval. Factor scores and a slight modification of item content are proposed for future use of the instrument.
