Going beyond demographic characteristics in arthritis research: Reflections on process in the experience of arthritis

Abstract When the disease began I didn't know what it was. I was sitting at a sewing machine for forty hours a week. I was thinking of taking off some time and having it checked out but the kind of job I did have, there wasn't any coverage, no insurance or anything, so if I did leave I would lose the income. It wasn't a big‐paying job. I make 150 per week, and take home 130, so I have to be careful and take in the forty hours in order to come home with something. I was turned down for disability (1).
