Metacognition refers to an individual's knowledge about his or her cognitions and the parameters that influence them and also the ability to control those cognitions. The pedagogical implications of research on metacognitions are considered. In particular, strategy training in such areas as reading comprehension and self-control are considered. How one might apply these concepts in the classroom is also noted.
