Abstract The free-electron Boltzmann equation with elastic and isotropic bulk scattering is used to solve size effect problems in electrical conduction. It is assumed that the surface scattering is diffuse. Two cases are considered: 1. A conductor with rectangular cross section in zero magnetic field. The results are in good agreement with previous work for a square cross section by MacDonald and Sarginson (1950).2. A thin film in a transverse magnetic field in the plane of the film. The results give better agreement with experiments than previous work by MacDonald and Sarginson (1950) and previous work by Azbel' (1963).
