This article combines the explanation of a construct on thought process with an exploratory effort at measuring the concept. The Image is defined as the process of subjectively ordering information into categorical units. An explanation of the image is derived mainly from the writing of Kenneth Boulding. Beyond the explanation, factor analytic data are presented to demonstrate the useability of the construct for communication researchers. The stimulus object for the study was the image held by Ohio State University students of the Black Student Union on their campus.
