A recent finding that the reading subscores on the SATverbal sections have substantially higher validity than the vocabulary subscores has stimulated interest in the four item types of which the sxr-verbal sections are composed. This report provides a summary of data from item and test analyses on the difficulty level and on patterns of nonresponse for the four item types, on the extent to which each item type supplies items having both a relatively high difficulty level and a reasonably high biserial correlation, and on the true-score intercorrelations of the four item types.
