A large (« = 893) and heterogeneous Canadian sample was administered a test of environmental attitudes and knowledge developed by Maloney and Ward (1973). Data were analyzed in two ways. Using Maloney, Ward and Braucht's (1975) original scoring scheme the present study replicated their major findings. The second analysis employed factor analytic techniques to examine the dimensionality of the original scales, and led to a re-scoring of the data which reflected the factor structures discovered. It is suggested that the new scales have some heuristic value, both in terms of increasing the understanding of the nature of attitudebehaviour relationships in this area, and also in terms of their implications for social intervention policies.
