What are the determinants of warfarin requirements in Chinese patients with deep vein thrombosis and/or pulmonary thromboembolism?
Chinese patients require a lower mean daily maintenance dosage of warfarin (3 mg) compared to historical Caucasian norms, with age being a significant determinant of dosing requirements.
Abstract The warfarin requirements of 33 Chinese patients presenting with deep vein thrombosis and/or pulmonary thromboembolism were studied. The mean daily maintenance dosage was considerably lower in Chinese (3 mg) than in Caucasian subjects (4–6 mg) and, as in Caucasian subjects, the age of the patient rather than body weight was an important determinant of warfarin requirements ( r = 0.4, p < 0.05).
