This volume is a study in comparative world urban development. The book is designed as a textbook at the undergraduate level and consists of a series of contributions from different authors. Following an introduction on world urban development chapters are devoted to urbanization in each of the worlds 10 major regions. Each regional chapter is built around four major themes: evolution of urban systems and settlements major representative urban centers major contemporary urban problems and solutions to urban problems. A final chapter considers cities of the future.
