The emergence of battery-powered, portable PCs and a growing worldwide environment awareness have spurred interest among PC manufacturers in reducing the power consumption of computing systems and office technologies in general. These two factors are influencing how one thinks about and, subsequently, designs computing systems. The momentum of these issues has driven the design points of relevant computing systems to achieve increasingly greater levels of energy efficiency without sacrificing capability, functionality, or performance. These characteristics continue to evolve as the underlying technologies and drive competition.>
