The purpose of this article is to report facts on the distributions of labor earnings, income, and wealth in the United States. We provide a quantitative description of these three most often discussed dimensions of inequality. 1 Providing such a description is no easy task, mainly because, in abstract terms, inequality means very little, and when we try to give inequality a concrete meaning, we discover its multidimensional nature.
