The combination of Ir, which has a strong affinity for carbonyl groups, with an acid H-β zeolite as a support and promotor, provides an effective catalyst for the chemoselective hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes and ketones to the corresponding allylic alcohols.
