Thls paper gives a general description of a single sideband communications system which is presently being developed for the US Air Force. It was written early in the progress of the development, and hence, certain of the detailed descriptions as given will change as the program approaches maturity. The program is intended to provide more reliable HF communications by exploiting Single Sideband techniques, increased flexibility of operator's control, direct delivery of messages and phone patching, and selective calling of aircraft.
