Abstract The method for the isolation of amino‐acids and organic bases by displacement chromatography using synthetic ion‐exchange resins 1, 2 has been employed for fractionating the nitrogenous bases in a beetroot extract. Pure glutamine has been isolated from selected fractions and treatment of other fractions has led to the isolation of betaine and γ‐aminobutyric acid.
