Doctoring spin: Spin transfer and solvato-/thermochromism have been observed in a purely organic open-shell system comprising electron-donor and -acceptor moieties, in which a 6-oxophenalenoxyl neutral radical is directly linked with tetrathiafulvalene. Intramolecular electron transfer (IET, see scheme) causes this interconversion, which can be controlled by a moderate change in the solvent environment and temperature.
